TERMINOLOGY
The bankruptcy cost for a personal filing can vary, depending on the type of bankruptcy you file and the fees in your particular area. You may incur attorney fees, court filing fees as well as other administrative costs. If you file for bankruptcy and do not use an attorney, you can save a considerable amount in fees, however you will still have to pay all court costs. Make sure you have properly researched the filing procedure for your state if you choose not to hire an attorney.
Bankruptcy Costs
Depending on the area in which you live, attorney’s fees can range from a few hundred dollars to over one thousand dollars. Some attorneys base their fees on the amount of debt included in your bankruptcy, while others only charge a flat fee for their services. Make sure to find out the exact fee structure before you settle on an attorney. You may be able to get a better deal by checking with other attorneys in your area.
There are also court filing fees involved that will add to the total cost of the bankruptcy. The amount may be different in your state for each kind of bankruptcy that can be filed.
